Italy -Japan: two different psychiatric models

The Descovich Health Centre is managed by CORCOVADO srl becomes part of the Colibri Consortium, an association which continues to grow in Emilia Romagna and as a group is a point of reference for the health sector, well being and educational services.

The Consortium, that this year celebrates its tenth anniversary, links up structures operating in the health and socio-medical sector operating in Emilia Romagna, dreating added value for the self same structures, citizens, stakeholders and the region.

The Descovich Health Centre was started in Bologna in the sixties by Professor Carlo Descovich, a pediatric surgeon,and head physician of the maternity department of Bologna, as well as one of the founders and first president of ISEF Bologna. In the pediatric field Professor Carlo Descovich stood out, amongst other things, from the beginning for his forward thinking regarding the importance of physical activity and good posture in pediatric patients. Part of his clinical work and his research were orientated along these lines, today highly valued and in other sectors (eg. adults- the elderly) and essential in various recommended therapeutic procedures at an international level.
In the following years the management was in the capable hands of the son, Prof. Giancarlo Descovich, cardiologist and geriatician, head of the Atherosclerosis Centre of the Policlinico Sant’Orsola Malpighi. The change of management of the Health Centre led to a change of focus towards the elderly, maintaining however a strong interest in the field of rehabilitation. One of the main elements of the work of Prof. Giancarlo Descovich was to study and treat cardiovascular risk factors ( in particular dyslipidaemia) to understand the impact of effective treatments (drugs but above all a healthy lifestyle – diet and physical activity most of all ) to decrease the incidence of cardiovascular disease and not only.
Today the Health Centre is run by Prof. Giancarlo Descovich, who has increased training possibilities in various specialist disciplines, also in the field of home care.
The Descovich Health Centre is a point of reference for physiotherapy in Bologna, has a wealth of experience in specialist disciplines, in ultrasound diagnosis and ahs developed modern procedures in following patients at home. The structure is situated in the centre of Bologna but outside of the limited traffic zone.
